One of the greatest paradoxes of the Crimean War, where the land and naval forces of Britain, France, Turkey and the Kingdom of Sardinia, on the one hand, and Tsarist Russia, on the other, is that the claim that war is the driving force of industry does not apply here, and that in this case it was rather the opposite. This war took place not only in the Crimean peninsula, but also affected the Caucasus, northern Russia, the Baltic Sea, and even fought in the Far East. It was accompanied by legends in the form of the so-called Long Red Line or Light Brigade Attack, but especially hundreds of thousands of dead soldiers, and ended up not actually clear who was the winner and who was defeated. The symbol of the middle of the 19th century is an industry that is moving forward by leaps and bounds without being able to do so. The new weapons destroyed the enemy’s soldiers much more effectively. The steam engine settled in factories, locomotives and ships. This was also helped by the development of the telegraph, photography and journalism, when for the first time readers were able to obtain reports from their newspapers thanks to the personal participation of journalists and photographers directly on the battlefield. It was all the Crimean War.

Jedním z největších paradoxů krymské války, kde proti sobě stály pozemní a námořní síly Velké Británie, Francie, Turecka a Sardinského království na straně jedné a carského Ruska na straně druhé, je skutečnost, že tvrzení, že válka je hnacím motorem průmyslu, zde neplatí a že v tomto případě to bylo spíše naopak. Tato válka se odehrávala nejen na Krymském poloostrově, ale zasáhla rovněž Kavkaz, sever Ruska, Baltské moře, a dokonce se válčilo i na Dálném východě. Doprovázely ji legendy v podobě tzv. Dlouhé červené linie či Útoku lehké brigády, ale především statisíce mrtvých vojáků, a skončila tak, že vlastně nebylo jasné, kdo je tu vítěz a kdo poražený. Symbolem poloviny 19. století je průmysl ženoucí se kupředu mílovými kroky, aniž by mu člověk dokázal stačit. Nové zbraně mnohem efektivněji ničily vojáky nepřítele. Parní stroj se usídlil v továrnách, lokomotivách a lodích. Tomu napomáhal i rozvoj telegrafu, fotografie, žurnalistiky, kdy poprvé mohli čtenáři získat ze svých novin reportáže díky osobní účasti novinářů a fotografů přímo na bojišti. To vše byla krymská válka.
