Constipation: When the intestines work too slowly

Constipation is not uncommon. Around one in four people in Germany suffers from digestive problems at least occasionally. The active ingredient sodium picosulfate takes effect in the large intestine. There, the drug is chemically converted into its active form by intestinal bacteria and then inhibits the absorption of water from the intestine. At the same time, it promotes the release of water and minerals, which makes the stool thinner and increases the amount of stool. This stimulates intestinal movement and supports natural intestinal activity. The laxative effect normally occurs after 10 to 12 hours if taken in the evening.

Thanks to its dosage form as drops, the laxative can be dosed easily and individually. The medicine is suitable for children from 4 years of age. Sodium picosulfate AL 7.5 mg/ml drops are only intended for short-term use and should not be taken over a longer period of time.
