What is nasopharyngitis?
In nasopharyngitis, commonly called the common cold, a viral infection, is a benign hyperplasia of the mucous membrane that lines the inside of the nose (in the nasal cavity) and the pharynx (located at the back of the nasal passages).

The mucous membrane of the nose secretes, as a rule, in a small amount of liquid, the role of which is to constantly humidify the air inspired and fight off infectious agents.

In the case of a virus infection, this mucous membrane swells, becomes irritated, and produces a large amount of its secretion, so that the nose is “clogged”, or that the nose “runs”.

The pharyngeal mucosa is also the site of inflammation involving redness, swelling and pain.

The nasopharyngitis is a common infection that is benign but contagious. This infectious pathology is most common in children. Between six months and six years of age, each child has an average of four to five episodes of nasopharyngitis per year, especially in the fall and winter. In fact, there are 200 different viruses capable of causing this disease.

Qu’est-ce que la rhinopharyngite?
Dans la rhinopharyngite, communément appelée rhume, une infection virale, est une hyperplasie bénigne de la membrane muqueuse qui tapisse l’intérieur du nez (dans la cavité nasale) et le pharynx (situé à l’arrière des voies nasales).

La membrane muqueuse du nez sécrète, en règle générale, une petite quantité de liquide, dont le rôle est d’humidifier en permanence l’air inspiré et de combattre les agents infectieux.

En cas d’infection par un virus, cette membrane muqueuse gonfle, devient irritée et produit une grande quantité de sa sécrétion, de sorte que le nez est “bouché”, ou que le nez “coule”.

La muqueuse pharyngée est également le siège d’une inflammation impliquant rougeur, gonflement et douleur.

La rhinopharyngite est une infection courante bénigne mais contagieuse. Cette pathologie infectieuse est la plus fréquente chez les enfants. Entre six mois et six ans, chaque enfant a en moyenne quatre à cinq épisodes de rhinopharyngite par an, surtout en automne et en hiver. En fait, il existe 200 virus différents capables de provoquer cette maladie.
