The preparation is an emergency contraceptive that can be taken within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex or if your usual method of contraception fails.
It is intended for the following cases:
- If no contraceptive was used during sexual intercourse.
- If the contraceptive has been used incorrectly, for example if the condom has torn or slipped off or has been used incorrectly, if the position of your vaginal pessary or diaphragm has changed, if the vaginal pessary or diaphragm has broken/torn or been removed too early, or if semen (semen) has entered the vagina or onto the woman’s external genitals during so-called coitus interruptus (withdrawal of the penis from the vagina before ejaculation).
The medicine contains a synthetic hormone-like active substance called levonorgestrel. If taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex, it prevents unwanted pregnancy in approximately 84% of cases. It does not always prevent pregnancy, and the sooner it is taken after unprotected sex, the greater the effectiveness. It is better to take the medicine within 12 hours than to wait until the third day.
