Aciclovir-based cream.
Therapeutic indications
Efrivirallabiale is used in the treatment of Herpes simplex skin infections such as: primary or recurrent herpes genitalis and herpes labialis in adults and adolescents (over 12 years of age).
Dosage and Posology
The drug should be taken according to the following doses and methods: it must be applied 5 times a day at intervals of about 4 hours. Aciclovir cream should be applied to the lesions or areas where they are developing as early as possible after the infection begins. It is especially important to start treatment for recurrent episodes during the prodrome phase or when lesions first appear.
Treatment must continue for at least 4 days. If there is no healing, treatment can continue for up to 10 days. If after 10 days the lesions are still present it is recommended that patients consult their doctor. Patients should wash their hands before and after applying the cream and avoid unnecessarily rubbing the lesions or touching them with a towel in order to avoid worsening or transmission of the infection.
The safety and efficacy of the drug have not been studied in patients under the age of 12. Aciclovir is eliminated mainly via the kidney, but the systemic absorption of aciclovir after topical application is negligible. Consequently, no dose modification is required in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency.

Indicazioni terapeutiche
Efrivirallabiale si usa nel trattamento delle infezioni cutanee da Herpes simplex quali: herpes genitalis primario o ricorrente ed herpes labialis negli adulti e negli adolescenti (di eta superiore ai 12 anni).
Dosaggio e Posologia
Il farmaco va assunto secondo le seguenti dosi e modalita: deve essere applicato 5 volte al giorno ad intervalli di circa 4 ore. Aciclovir crema deve essere applicato sulle lesioni o sulle zone dove queste stanno sviluppandosi il piu precocemente possibile dopo l’inizio dell’infezione. E particolarmente importante iniziare il trattamento di episodi ricorrenti durante la fase dei prodromi o al primo apparire delle lesioni.
Il trattamento deve continuare per almeno 4 giorni. Se non si e avuta guarigione, il trattamento puo continuare fino ad un massimo di 10 giorni. Se dopo 10 giorni le lesioni sono ancora presenti e consigliabile che i pazienti consultino il medico. I pazienti devono lavare le mani prima e dopo l’applicazione della crema ed evitare di sfregare inutilmente le lesioni o di toccarle con un asciugamano al fine di evitare il peggioramento o la trasmissione dell’infezione.
La sicurezza e l’efficacia del farmaco non sono state studiate in pazienti con eta inferiore ai 12 anni. Aciclovir viene eliminato principalmente per via renale, ma l’assorbimento sistemico di aciclovir dopo applicazione topica e trascurabile. Di conseguenza, non e richiesta alcuna modifica della dose in pazienti con insufficienza renale o epatica.
