Erst bei übermäßiger Vermehrung entsteht eine Pilzerkrankung (Mykose), die sich meist durch Rötung, Brennen, Juckreiz, Ausfluss und schmerzhafte Entzündungen bemerkbar macht. Eine sichere Erkennung ist nur durch den Frauenarzt oder den Hautarzt möglich.
