Chelating agents such as D-penicillamine, DMPS or EDTA can reduce the absorption of zinc or increase the excretion. The absorption of ofloxazine and other quinolones is affected by zinc. The simultaneous administration of iron, copper or calcium salts reduces the absorption of zinc. Foods with a high phytin content (e.g. grain products, legumes, nuts) reduce the absorption of zinc.
