Edwin P. Hoyt, an American military historian and journalist, served in the US Air Force, worked for the War Information Office from 1943 to 1945, and later became a journalist and taught at the university. In the book 1944: The War in the Central Pacific takes readers to the center of the fighting of the American Pacific Fleet, which took place during the American advance through Eniwetok, Kwajalein and Saipan, the conquest of Guam and Tinian, until June 1944, when they managed to break through Japanese defensive perimeter in the Central Pacific.
The author shows the battles from both the American and Japanese perspectives. In addition to describing the events, the view behind the curtain of top US command leaders, including disagreements over the Central Pacific’s most effective move toward the Japanese islands.

The book 1944: The War in the Central Pacific is the second part of Hoyt’s trilogy devoted to the American struggle against the Japanese in the Pacific. The main theme of the first part, Storm over the Gilbert Islands, which was published in 2019, is the invasion of Tarawa and Makin. The final part of the 1945 battle is described in the third part, The Circle Closes, the release of which is planned for 2022.

Edwin P. Hoyt, americký vojenský historik a novinář, sloužil u amerického letectva, v letech 1943–1945 pracoval v Úřadu pro válečné informace, později se věnoval žurnalistice a učil na univerzitě. V knize 1944 : Válka ve středním Tichomoří čtenáře zavádí do centra bojů amerického Tichomořského loďstva, které se odehrávaly při postupu Američanů přes Eniwetok, Kwajalein a Saipan, dobytí Guamu a Tinianu, až do června 1944, kdy se jim při invazi na Mariánské ostrovy daří prorazit japonský obranný perimetr ve středním Tichomoří.
Autor ukazuje bitvy z amerického i japonského pohledu. Kromě samotného popisu vývoje událostí přináší pohled za oponu rozhodování nejvyšších špiček amerického velení, včetně rozporů v názorech na co nejúčinnější postup středním Pacifikem ve směru k japonským ostrovům.

Kniha 1944 : Válka ve středním Tichomoří je druhým dílem Hoytovy trilogie věnované bojům Američanů proti Japoncům v Pacifiku. Hlavním tématem prvního dílu, Bouře nad Gilbertovými ostrovy, který vyšel v roce 2019, je invaze na Tarawu a Makin. Závěrečné boje v roce 1945 popisuje třetí díl, Kruh se uzavírá, jehož vydání je plánováno na rok 2022.
