Notes on the Gallic War are the most famous and at the same time the most important work of the Roman general Gaia Iulia Caesar. In seven books written in the third person, he describes not only his campaigns and battles, but also the nature and customs of the ancient Gauls, Germans, etc. The story begins in 58 BC and ends in 52 BC, the style of the work is very simple and plain, uses a relatively small vocabulary, without unnecessary diversions and poetic embellishments. The reader has the opportunity to become acquainted not only with Caesar’s ingenious military and political talent, but also with the perfect organization and high quality of the Roman army.

Zápisky o válce galské jsou nejznámějším a zároveň nejvýznamnějším dílem římského vojevůdce Gaia Iulia Caesara. V sedmi knihách psaných ve třetí osobě popisuje nejen svá tažení a bitvy, ale i přírodu a zvyky starých Galů, Germánů apod. Vyprávění počíná rokem 58 př. n. l. a končí rokem 52 př. n. l., přičemž sloh díla je velmi jednoduchý a prostý, používá relativně malou slovní zásobu, bez zbytečných odboček a básnických pří­kras. Čtenář má možnost se seznámit nejen s Caesarovým geniálním vojenským a politickým nadáním, ale také s dokonalou organizací a vysokou kvalitou římského vojska.
