The Storm over the Gilbert Islands is the first part of Hoyt’s trilogy, dedicated to the Americans’ struggle against the Japanese in the Pacific. The events in the Central Pacific in 1944 are devoted to the second book, To the Marianas – War in the Central Pacific: 1944, the final battles in 1945, then the last part of the Circle is Closing – War in the Pacific: 1945.
The second and third parts of the trilogy will be published by NAŠE VOJSKO in the years 2020 – 2021.
At the beginning of 1943, the American Committee of Chiefs of Staff approved the advance across the Central Pacific as the cheapest and most efficient way to advance to Japan. The first target was to be the Gilbert Islands. Edwin P. Hoyt’s book The Storm over the Gilbert Islands is dedicated to the invasion of Tarawa and Makin. In it, the prolific American military historian describes in detail the operation, which was considered “easy” amphibious unit training before the much more demanding invasion operations, where American commanders try new tactics, new methods, new organization and deployment of new weapons.

Bouře nad Gilbertovými ostrovy je první díl Hoytovy trilogie, věnované boji Američanů proti Japoncům v Tichomoří. Událostem ve středním Pacifiku v roce 1944 je věnována druhá kniha, K Marianám – Válka ve středním Tichomoří : 1944, závěrečným bojům v roce 1945 pak poslední část Kruh se uzavírá – Válka v Tichomoří : 1945.
Druhý a třetí díl trilogie vyjdou v nakladatelství NAŠE VOJSKO v letech 2020 – 2021.
Na začátku roku 1943 americký výbor náčelníků štábů schválil postup přes střední Pacifik jakožto nejlevnější a nejefektivnější způsob jak postupovat na Japonsko. Prvním cílem měly být Gilbertovy ostrovy. Invazi na Tarawu a Makin je věnována kniha Edwina P. Hoyta Bouře nad Gilbertovými ostrovy. Plodný americký vojenský historik v ní podrobně popisuje operaci, která byla před zahájením považována za „snadný“ výcvik obojživelných jednotek před mnohem náročnějšími invazními operacemi, kdy si američtí velitelé vyzkouší novou taktiku, nové metody, novou organizaci i nasazení nových zbraní.
