Description
Maalox syrup is a preparation containing topical antacids. They act by neutralizing secreted acids through the stomach. It has been reported in adults (from 15 years of age) to heartburn and acid elevations. For adults only.

Antacids based on aluminum and magnesium salts, contact antacids; they reduce the acidity of gastric secretion, their buffering capacity and neutralization of direct hydrochloric acid present in the stomach.
Among the many products in this class

Aluminum hydroxide, has an important and long lasting neutralization power; it can cause constipation and depletion of phosphorée, absorption of phosphates in food.
Magnesium hydroxide, antacid action quickly and briefly; this can cause diarrhea.
The association of derivatives of magnesium and aluminum is intended to prevent the effects on intestinal transit and the addition of their actions, topical and antacids.

Structure
Aluminum hydroxide 3.5 g, magnesium hydroxide 4.0 g per 100 ml of oral suspension.
Excipients: concentrated hydrochloric acid, citric acid monohydrate, peppermint oil, D-mannitol, sodium saccharin, sorbitol 70% (not cristallisable), purified water. Preservatives: methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate.
Excipient effect known: sorbitol.

Effet d’excipient connu: sorbitol.
