The book deals with selected episodes of the air battles of the Spanish Civil War, especially those that took place in 1936 over Madrid and in 1938 during the Battle of Ebro. It shows the realities of the cruel civil conflict and the involvement of foreign interventions and presents aircraft of various types, from machines completely obsolete or rare, present in the Iberian Peninsula in only a few, to the most modern types, which underwent baptism and became real legends (Messerschmitt Bf 109, Heinkel He 111, Dornier Do 17, Polikarpov I-16, Tupolev SB). He also pays attention to the diverse mix of men behind them: the Spaniards on both sides of the barricade, the Soviets, the Germans, the Italians, the French, the British, the Americans, the Czechoslovaks and the pilots of other nationalities. The publication contains a photo appendix, maps, many tables dedicated to individual aircraft types and a rich note-taking apparatus.
