Kdyz v cervnu 1941 vtrhla nacisticka armada do sovetskeho svazu, ocekavala nemecka generalita, ze valka bude mit rychly prubeh. nasvedcovalo tomu vse – drtivy postup nacisticky obrnenych klinu, uspechy nemeckych jednotek na vsech usecich fronty a v neposledni rade i zdrcujici prevaha, kterou meli nemecti piloti nad svymi protivniky v letounech s rudymi hvezdami na kridlech. Rychla zkaza sovetskych armad se ale nekonala a soveti postupne zacali prebirat iniciativu. Na zemi i ve vzduchu, kde se sovetsti letci postupne zacali svym nemeckym protivnikum vyrovnavat.
