Dietary supplement containing in one capsule Baikal thyroid root extract (300 mg) standardized to contain 88% of baicalin.
Baikal skullcap is a perennial perennial from the Lamiaceae family with purple flowers resembling a skull or a lion’s mouth. Scutellaria baicalensis is native to East Asia and grows most abundantly in Lake Baikal, eastern Siberia and northern China. Baicalin can be found most often in open, sunny meadows located at higher altitudes. The medicinal raw material is the Scutellaria baicalensis root.
A plant can grow for about four years before a root is dug up and used, the reason being that the amount of bioactive ingredients is higher the older the root is. The most important bioactive compounds are flavonoids (scutellarin, baicalin, baicalein, wagonin), steroid saponins, alkaloids, glycosides, essential oils, tannins and iridoids.
