Almost every day we use cosmetics. Someone does daily makeup, someone uses only skin care cosmetics or applies a cream or serum to prevent skin aging. Anyway, this is a huge industry, and it is not surprising that there are a lot of myths about the benefits or harms of a particular cosmetic product. In order not to take contradictory information on faith, it is better to check it.

1. Active substances in good cosmetics penetrate deep into the skin

Myth. All cosmetics act exclusively on the upper layer of the skin. Moreover, if cosmetics penetrated deep inside, it could be fraught with tissue burns. The fact is that the upper layers of the skin consist of dead cells that form a kind of protective barrier so as not to damage the delicate cells of the inner layers. If you want to get to the deep layers of the skin, it is better to use hardware cosmetology.

2. Parabens and preservatives in cosmetics are harmless

Fact. For some reason, there are many horror stories associated with the word “parabens”. Allegedly, their presence in cosmetics is very bad, they can cause unpredictable consequences. Many manufacturers write large on their jars and bottles: “organic”, “without parabens”. This is actually a marketing ploy. To date, there is no serious research that proves the harmfulness of parabens, and in the production of cosmetics they are used as preservatives. If the packaging says that the product is paraben-free, it just means that a different substance is used as a preservative.

3. The same cosmetic products, produced in Russia and in Europe will be different

Fact. Cosmetics produced in Russia and those made abroad will differ, if only because different water will be used. In addition, other countries have different quality standards. Another thing is that it is not necessary that products produced in Russia will be worse in quality. Often we are just inferior in design.

It is worth noting that cosmetics companies do not like to place factories in different countries, so few Western brands have production in Russia. However, some companies are starting to produce some products in addition to their main brand, intended only for sale in Russia.

4. If the mascara brush to dip into the tube multiple times, you will get rid of the lumps

Myth. If you often lower the mascara brush into the tube, you will only get extra air into it, which will quickly spoil the cosmetic product. To get rid of lumps of mascara, simply dip the brush in the tube and scroll it several times.

When using mascara, remember that its shelf life is much shorter than we think. The mascara will last you exactly 3 months from the first day of use.

5. Blue shadows-fashion of our grandmothers

Myth. Today blue shadows — a real hit. They are appropriate in a variety of shades: from light blue to turquoise. Moreover, these colors perfectly emphasize the depth of the eyes. However, remember that blue or blue shadows are not suitable for everyone. Best of all, this make-up is suitable for women with either a very light or dark skin tone and brown, gray or gray-blue eyes.

The only advice: when choosing shadows of blue shades, try not to use black eyeliner and lipstick of red shades. It is better to stop at the Indigo eyeliner and choose a lipstick of neutral shades or limit yourself to lip gloss.

6. Botox Injections can lead to premature aging

Partly a fact. Botox is a great way to fight wrinkles. However, as it turned out, not everyone benefits from Botox. Recently, doctors are increasingly warning about the premature use of Botox. We are talking about the fact that young girls who abuse Botox, expose themselves to the threat of premature aging. The fact is that after the procedure, facial tissues begin to wear out and thin out quite quickly. It is believed that frequent use of Botox at the age of 30 years significantly reduces the own tone of the facial muscles and after stopping injections, the face swells sharply. Therefore, it is better to use Botox exclusively as prescribed by a cosmetologist to solve a specific problem.

7. Expensive cosmetics have a high price due to the presence of high-quality and expensive components

More like a myth. The cost of many components of cosmetics is quite low, and the final cost of cosmetics is more influenced by advertising and brand promotion. For example, if you study the composition of most tonics and acne remedies, the main components will be salicylic acid, zinc and some phytocomplex. However, when it comes to anti-aging products, the composition may differ. So the effectiveness of cosmetics does not depend on the price, but on the ingredients. The earlier a particular component is specified in the composition, the higher the percentage of its content in the product. However, age-related changes, alas, will not be able to stop any cream.

8. Cucumbers help with puffiness and bags under the eyes no worse than cosmetics

Fact. Cucumber masks are a classic. Circles of this vegetable really do a great job with puffiness and bags under the eyes. The fact is that cucumbers contain special enzymes and antioxidants that help reduce swelling and relieve irritation. Cucumber also consists of 90 % water, so it has an instant cooling effect.

Cool cucumber helps to quickly evaporate moisture from the skin. Apply the slices on the eyelids for 5-7 minutes.

9. Night cream should be used at night

Myth. Moreover, night cream should never be applied immediately before going to bed, especially for the cream around the eyes. This is fraught with the fact that in the morning you will Wake up not with soft and smooth skin, but with unpleasant edema. Night cream should be applied 1.5-2 hours before bedtime. It depends on what time you wash your face and remove your makeup in the evening. After all cleansing procedures, you can apply a night cream. And it is desirable to do it correctly: along the massage lines with your fingertips, trying not to stretch the skin unnecessarily.

10. Mayonnaise will help make your hair shiny

Partly a fact. This folk method can help give your hair Shine and softness, if we are talking about homemade mayonnaise. It contains natural oils and proteins. At the same time, store-bought mayonnaise with colorants, preservatives, and food additives in the composition can lead to the opposite effect. Anyway, any mayonnaise loses in properties and quality to professional hair care products. In addition, it is not very convenient to apply and difficult to wash off.

Be careful and attentive when choosing cosmetics, because beauty requires not sacrifice, but a competent approach.
